At the Game Awards, Microsoft revealed its new console, the Xbox Series X. The new console has a tower PC like design, which is a significant change from traditional gaming console designs.
The reason for this design is for better cooling, which makes sense with the console guaranteed to play games at 4K 60p and up to 120p on 4K and up to 8K 30p.
I also believe this design choice is great for those who might not have a TV but have a gaming monitor and want to use it alongside their PC and not need two different displays. There is also a slighted updated controlled with a new D-Pad configuration.
There isn’t an official spec list yet but here is what we know currently about the Xbox Series X.
- Custom AMD Zen 2 Processor
- 4K 60fps based level gaming
- Up to 120 FPS on 4K
- p to 8K 30fps gaming available
- Variable Refresh Rate
- Full Backwards compatibility with Xbox One
- Holiday 2020 release
It’s going to be an exciting 2020 for gaming. Not only do we have the new Xbox Series X coming next year, but we will also see the PS5 and we have cloud gaming with Microsoft’s own Project X Cloud and Google Stadia. 2020 is the beginning of a new gaming era.
